View Full Version : Sync only works one-way?

July 26th, 2005, 07:48 PM
I installed the new TB toolbar (thanks!!!) v1.58 into Thunderbird 1.0.6. It pushed up my contacts from TB to Plaxo Online, but that was it.

1. It didn't download the existing contacts from Plaxo Online into Thunderbird. So, all my contacts already in Plaxo Online won't come down to Thunderbird.

2. It didn't download the new contacts (from TB originally) into my other clients (e.g. Outlook). I was able to go into the Outlook Toolbar, Sync Options, and it showed 60+ contacts that weren't downloaded. I clicked download, and it downloaded them. Why it didn't download them automatically is the question/problem. (I had clicked Sync in Outlook first, but that didn't grab them.)

3. On first sync after install and/or "reset", I get an error that says "Failed to sync. Remote server error. Stopping".

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, clicking the Slow Sync button, and clicking the Reset Account button. Nothing seems to work.

I'm really looking forward to the Thunderbird integration. Thanks, guys!

First few lines of the plx.log file. Looks like this may be the problem...

HI there, yep, you found a bug, unfortunately.

I'll send you a private message to work out getting your log.

I can assure you, however, this is definitely a 2-way sync system /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for sending the report in.

I sent you a private message with the location of my log file to pull down off my web server. Please let me know if you don't get it. (I never did see a private message from you...?)

Hi, just posted an announcement about this. We should have the next release out on Thursday.

August 2nd, 2005, 02:28 AM
I don't use Tbird but I have the same problem.
Version 2.1.0.80 and Plaxo toolbar in Outlook Office Professional 2003.
I bought the Address book optimizer yesterday but it only cleaned my online address book.
My online address book has 859 contacts and my outlook address book 818.

hmm. this forum is only for TBird. I would check the Outlook forums for issues about those discrepencies. I would also check the Synchronization Manager to see if some contacts are being held from being created in your address book.

Anyways, back to the main topic of this thread, the new version of the client, 1.61 should address this issue. Go try it out.

I have searched forums for Outlook only and have not found any.
Is there a new version available for those who do not use T-Bird?
I still have differencies between online address book (850 contacts) and outlook (823 contacts).
Thanks!

Anonymous, please only post about Thunderbird issues in the Thunderbird forum.

Regarding the contact discrepancy, there are two possibilities:
1) Note that Plaxo does not sync distribution lists.
2) Also, Plaxo may not be sync'ing all folders. Check the Synchronization Manager from your Plaxo for Outlook Toolbar (Plaxo icon).

Sorry to be off subject, but i just realised that you cannot sync to things like contact@ and info@, which i understand could be a huge distribution list, but it can also be a small operation being businesslike. I have a few old friends i am trying to look up, and have found their sites with info and contact@ to send them my details and await them updating to a personal prefix ... but sadly i cant. It would be nice to overwrite this and send these types occasionally.

MarkDusk,

I hear you. But as you can imagine, the potential annoyance factor to tons of people on a distro list and the harm to Plaxo (from furious complaint e-mails / calls) at present outweighs the convenience of being able to get an update request from a friend at a 'generic' address. Even if we were to allow for an override, we're concerned that it could be abused with the potential for huge uproars. You wouldn't believe the flack we got, for instance, when someone sent an update request to "B2@companyname.com" -- which went out to over 1000 people in Building 2 of a Fortune 500 company. :|
