We've narrowed down the major issues that people were having and have a new version of the extension and server binary to push into production. I wanted to do this tonight, but they are doing some work on the databases that will cause this to be pushed out to Thursday.

This should fix the notes field, and bad syncs that were occuring.

Thanks for your patience, I'll keep you all posted to the changes /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Update: the release missed the window tonight, so we're shooting for Friday.

This will fix the notes field, bad syncs, and the i18n encoding issues people were encountering.

Again, thanks for your patience, I'll keep you all posted to the changes /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, the server release is not going well. I tried to backport the code to production in order to get a new server and TBird release out but it is no go. The next best estimate is Tuesday... late Tuesday.

The scheduled release will fix the internationalization, crashing, and sync bugs. Once the sync is back to stable, we'll address the UI work that people want with Thunderbird.

Thanks, and please be patient, I'm not happy about this delay either.

Still waiting, the Server release is delayed till Thursday.. late.

Lets try for Friday. See above for what is in there to be fixed.

Thank you for your updates on the status, I greatly appreciate it.

August 2nd, 2005, 11:28 PM
I agree, I appreciate the updates. Things get pushed back, that just happens, but regular updates are nice.

August 8th, 2005, 12:07 PM
Whats the current estimate? Waiting...

August 9th, 2005, 04:01 PM
I second that...

Any update on the status of the thunderbird extension dru?

I am not clear to the reason behind the delay. Is this a server side issue? or are you having problem uploading the extension?

August 10th, 2005, 02:12 AM
I would like te know the status too.

The good news: the much awaited server build has been released! /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The bad news: you will have to wait till tomorrow for the next version of the TBird client that fixes the crashing and encoding bugs. I've had to put on my C++/Win32/COM/Outlook hat for the the last 5 days. Tomorrow, I will have plenty of time for TBird and getting all of those issues resolved.

So, hang in there one more day. The release comes in tomorrow.

Is this an update to the server or to the extension?

If this is an update to the extension, will the extension update feature in thunderbird work?

August 11th, 2005, 03:01 AM
Great news, keep the good work up Dru!

August 11th, 2005, 08:09 AM
Payam,

I believe the update feature requires that the extension be hosted at mozilla. But, I am not 100% sure.

I dont think that they have to have it on mozilla's website.

Anyways here is a link to a tutorial (http://roachfiend.com/archives/2005/03/09/enabling-extension-updates/) for the automatic extension update in firefox, I would imagine that it is the same for Thunderbird.

August 11th, 2005, 07:58 PM
This is an update to the server and the extension.

The extension update feature should work. Keep an eye out for that toaster window or do the 'get update' manually in Tools extensions.

August 11th, 2005, 08:07 PM
Ok, the tests went fine today. I've released the new version of the extension.

Version 1.60

It should update everybody's Thunderbird and I'll be replying to everyones posts here are the forums. This should fix the encoding and sync issues that international users were having. I'll send up release notes tomorrow.

Let me know how it goes, thanks!

Thanks for the update. I actually manually updated using the extension update feature on thunderbird. The first time I synced Thunderbird crashed, but the second time it synced fine. I dont know what the reason for the crash was and I forgot to get the error. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

the sync error seems to be fixed for one of my computers but I dont think its fixed for this person (http://forum.plaxo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=5995&page=0&view=collapse d&sb=5&o=&fpart=1).

August 12th, 2005, 09:06 AM
I had the same thing as Payam happen. I did the automatic update, exited TB and relaunched. TB crashed. Restarted, did a manual sync, and everything seems to be working.

August 12th, 2005, 10:04 AM
So weird, because I didnt have any problem. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Drudo you plan some updates for in the near future?

Thanks

August 12th, 2005, 12:26 PM
I followed the same procedure on another computer and experienced the same crash on the first sync.

August 12th, 2005, 12:49 PM
This is strange, but possible. In theory, since I'm only in the Javascript world, I shouldn't be able to cause a crash. I'm going to keep my eye on this. If this happens a lot, then we have a real problem because it will be difficult to determine the bug in Thunderbird that is causing this (unless I can reproduce it).

Thanks for the feedback guys!

August 12th, 2005, 12:52 PM
BTW, I released a new version, 1.61 today. There are no code changes. The reason I did this was to change our release procedure here and it was easier to push out a new version of the build. The version # should show up on the download page.

Hello!

Thank you and please keep up the good work on the Thunderbird extension!

We use Thunderbird and have recommended your extension to other businesses/consumers that we know use Thunderbird as well!

Are you sure that the "home address" field in the "personal information" is getting synchronized correctly? I made modifications in thunderbird under that category field but it didnt sync.

August 15th, 2005, 08:33 PM
Yep, home address fields are mapped properly to the Plaxo server fields.

Just curious, when will we be out of the beta phase? I'm anxious to have the multiple folder/address book features. Can't wait! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

August 17th, 2005, 06:14 PM
I'm thinking a few more weeks, but no promises. I think a workable multi-folder sync should not be too difficult.

August 18th, 2005, 09:29 AM
your my hero. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

August 20th, 2005, 06:49 AM
The posts here suggest that there is no problem left with the current version. But postal codes still get messed up after a synch!!

So be careful not to become complacent!

I don't think we have to worry about dru being complacent at all. He has done a fine job, and seems like he's on top of it. He's enthused to tackle the next phase, and if you notice on all the forum thunderbird forum threads, he is sure to not leave a thread open-ended. Plaxo did well to bring him on board. Sure sometimes a deadline is a bit delayed (what project isn't) but he is sure to post notice on any delays. Keep up the good work dru! /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thank you for being so responsive on this. I think that using Thunderbird should be a top priorty on the MAC side. Its easy to use, Mozilla has done a good job with its features and just like FireFox its picking up more and more speed. Thank you for listening.
