After installing Plaxo, Outlook no longer notifies

First off Plaxo is Awesome! I love it!

But, after installing it, Outlook 2003 no longer puts up the little notification window in the lower right of the screen when new mail comes in. I have grown dependent upon this notification window and would like to know if anyone else has experienced this and better yet if there is a solution or work around to get it working again.

If you're actually having problems sending or receiving mail (and not just having notification problems), your PST file might be too big (http://support.plaxo.com/bin/answer.py?answer=645).

If that's not the situation, I must admit that I'm stumped. We've not heard of any notification-specific issues, and Plaxo certainly doesn't make any changes to this setting. Have you checked your Options in Outlook to see if, for some odd reason, the notification settings have been changed?

Alongside thunderbird I use outlook 2003 and plaxo and I still have the "new mail icon" notification. You can check to see if this option is checked in outlook by going to:

Tools - Options

under the Preferences tab select the email options button

there select advanced email options

in the area that states when new items arrive in my inbox

make sure you have: show an envelope icon in the notification area and display a new mail desktop alert checked.

if both are checked, make sure that the email account you want is the default account in the tools-email accounts option

Well, I've checked all the settings for the notifications and they are properly checked.

I do get the little envelope in the notification area, but I'm not getting the alert that usually comes up on top, but has a little transparency to it, and eventually fades away. For some reason that is no longer showing since the time I installed Plaxo. Very odd indeed!

I'll keep playing with settings, but if anyone has any other suggestions I'm open to hearing them!

did you check to see if that email address is the default address? The popup only works for the default inbox.

I don't know of any way Plaxo could be affecting this - Plaxo doesn't actually use those pop-ups and shouldn't be affecting Outlook's use of those.

However, as a test, you could try disabling Plaxo. Start, (All) Programs, Plaxo, Disable Plaxo. Then restart Outlook and see if the notifications work. You can re-enable Plaxo by going back to the same place from the Start menu - it should now say Re-enable Plaxo.
