View Full Version : Can't access personal messages

August 28th, 2005, 11:16 PM
I can't find the personal messages that people are adding when they update their info. It used to be at the bottom of the email notifying me about the update, but its no longer in the new html version of the email. Suggestions?

Thanks!

Same problem! The new HTML version doesn't seem to give access to it. Please, Plaxo, tell us what to do.

I've maild with the Customer Care and they've send me the following answer:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please do the following to view Personal Message.

1.Signin to your Plaxo account at http://www.plaxo.com/signin
2.Click 'My Plaxo' at the top.
3.Under 'Recent Activity in my Network' you would see a mail mentioning
'Personal message'
4.Double click the mail and open it to read.

Note:
We recently found this to be a bug and our Engineers are working on it
kindly bear with us.

This may take a week's time to be rectified.
We appreciate your patience.

Plaxine, yes, that's the current situation. Much thanks for taking the initiative to post a followup in this thread. That's much appreciated.

The problem is still not healed when I look up the message "online" as described above ... there is still no "personal message" shown. What do I do wrong?

Thanx for your help in advance.

So Plaxine -- Is this working for you? It is not working for me at all.

When I try your work-around I get the same thing I get in my Outlook info. Unfortunately, I just sent out requests for about 450 updates, many of whom responded with messages. I contacted Plaxo support who told me:

"Though in the reply to update request you are informed of a personal message you are not able to view the same as of now.I am sorry to say that we are in middle of implementing some changes that makes Plaxo better than it is now. This is a serious problem which is being given utmost importance and will be resolved at the earliest. Please bear with us during these times and I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. "

Huh? Not sure that is an answer. At least not one I understand.

Any help from Plaxo folks would be appreciated.

I've run into the same situation. I updated over 600 contacts and got back several personal messages which I cannot access, even through the workaround quoted above. I also received a similar response from Plaxo customer support. Basically it sounds like they are aware of the problem and actively working to fix it. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Can someone from Plaxo give us an update on this?

A previous poster reported 9 days ago that this should be fixed within a week. I have messages that are several days old now which I can't respond to. If it may be another week I'll need to contact everyone manually to let them know that I can't access their message.

Thanks,
Alan

Hi,

The latest estimation is that this'll be all fixed this coming Monday, and personal messages will then be reflected (even retroactively) in Plaxo Online.

Hi, any update on this? I can see that something has changed, but it has not been fixed. Now all of the alerts that said "XXX has responded to your Update Request with a personal message" now just say "XXX has responded to your Update Request".

So now I'm not just missing the messages themselves but also I can no longer even see who sent a message at all.

September 12th, 2005, 08:23 PM
I too, would like to know the status of this item. I updated several hundred contacts over the weekend and received notice that a few dozen had responded with a personal message but could not see the message. Now the system reports only that they have updated their records - the personal message reported earlier is no longer reported, and still not visible. What's going on? Do I need to write these people and say "Sorry I didn't get your personal message because of a software glitch at Plaxo?"

Hi,

Sorry to note this, but we're still working on a concrete fix; we estimate that it'll be in place in about 2-3 weeks.

As a reminder, none of these messages have been or will be lost... they're just not viewable yet. Think of them as a present for the future, a message in a bottle floating in a tranquil sea, etc.

Seriously, though, we recognize the frustration in this delay and apologize for the temporary snafu. Thanks for your patience.

September 14th, 2005, 10:06 AM
Ouch! Is there a "not so concrete" fix that you guys can do to help folks out in the meantime? As it stands, I will be 4-5 weeks out in responding to these people. I can't imagine that this is that hard of a problem.....

September 14th, 2005, 10:51 AM
No kidding, it will be hard to have faith in Plaxo as a business tool if vital communications can not be delivered. Surely there must be some stop-gap measure available for us to see our messages in some form?

September 21st, 2005, 10:45 AM
This is not a good situation. I don't know how Plaxo can expect anyone to be happy about not being able to access a messages. Or How embarassing to admit to someone that the tool you are using is defective and could they please tell you what the personal message was that they left.

Adam -- Any more progress here?

September 22nd, 2005, 05:15 PM
Fortunately, most people do not respond to update request messages through email (most update responses are done through the web form), but I agree that it is very important for us to provide a fix. The current plan is to have a fix for this in the next minor release of the Plaxo server scheduled for end of month.

Any update?

September 30th, 2005, 12:29 PM
Hi acheslow,

Sorry, no updates at this time. We will definitely keep you posted with any new news in this thread. Again, as a reminder, no messages have been or will be lost, thankfully... just delayed.

October 4th, 2005, 08:36 AM
The first posting was from August 28th. I think "delayed" is an understatement.

October 6th, 2005, 06:23 AM
Has this problem been resolved? I am still unable to view any personal messages that were included with update replies.

October 6th, 2005, 11:24 AM
The target was to include a patch for this in a server release due out at the end of Sept. That is the release that has been delayed due to other unrelated issues.

As an aside: this is actually a good example of why it is difficult to publicly discuss features, fixes, etc... prior to their release. I understand the need to know when things are to be fixed, but there is always the risk of missetting expectations as we've unfortunately done on this instance.

Back to the question though: I can say that a fix has implemented and tested that should allow for the viewing of the personal message. But the decision was to delay our EOM server release while we worked to resolve other unrelated issues.

In general, we try to schedule minor server releases every 4-8 weeks, with critical fixes pushed out as necessary. This patch was not deemed critical to warrant creating its own patch release outside our normal release schedule and the delay is expected to be within normal guidelines.

October 6th, 2005, 11:29 AM
Oh - forgot to mention - I'll post something here as soon as the fix is pushed into production. thanks.

October 7th, 2005, 09:14 PM
Thanks for the info but I hope you will reconsider making this a critical fix. I personally have probably dozens of messages from important and trusted contacts that I have not been able to access. Some I have had to contact manually but for others it is too awkard to explain that I can't read their message because I chose a product that has been broken for over a month. I'm sure I am not alone judging by the number of people who have read this thread. For each of us who have posted in this thread there are probably hundreds of other users suffering from the same problem.

October 11th, 2005, 04:02 PM
A fix for the personalized message problem was rolled out last night to our production environment. Unfortunately, this fix is not retroactive to previously generated alerts.

For all new alerts that include personalized messages from the responder, the alert will include a link to view the personalized message. A Mailto: link will allow you to easily send an email message back to the responder, if desired.

October 12th, 2005, 07:29 AM
Thanks for the fix.

And I'm not sure if I understood what you meant about not working retroactively, but I can now read previously received messages through "My Alerts" online.

October 12th, 2005, 10:50 AM
I was referring to alerts that already exist in your Inbox that you previously received. Since these are basically static docs, they aren't regenerated.

But if you view the alerts through Plaxo Online as you noted, then you should get the correct format.
