View Full Version : What is the current status of Thunderbird Plaxo?
August 31st, 2005, 07:48 AM
I really want to get away from Outlook and the only thing keeping me is the lack of support for Plaxo. Evidently, the time for it is getting closer.
But what is the status right now. How close to "the real thing" is it? I mean, does it sync every bit of information from the Outlook addressbook into Thunderbird?
I am afraid to loose any information or to mess up my addressbook, so I am not going to install it yet. But really want to hear the status.

Hi Oceanwatcher,
This handy-dandy field mapping table (http://support.plaxo.com/bin/answer.py?answer=1046) should give you the info you're looking for. Let me know if you still have questions.

Any discussions on allowing the user to change the mapping for their specific liking? For example, I would rather the personal email address be the primary and the work email address be the seconary email address.

Hi Copart,
I'll forward your power-user suggestion to our engineers on that. Thanks!

Actually, that table really scared me! All those ignores will keep me from switching for a long time... Too bad. I have about 1000 addresses and there is a lot of info for each of them.

I believe that this is due to a Thunderbird limitation. The Thunderbird addressbook is quite limited compared to Outlook. I would like to see Thunderbird add more fields to it's addressbook and then see Plaxo add support for the new fields.
