View Full Version : Date of Birth in update requests

September 2nd, 2005, 08:50 AM
I have noticed that in Plaxo online, the year of birth is included, but in the update request and also in my plaxo cards, it only asks for month and date. I think that this is great by respecting a person's privacy of their age, but if a person doesn't care, then why can't I add more information in my card.

For example I would like to add my spouse's name and anniversary to my card and I would like to keep people's year of birth. I use plaxo to manage my synagogue membership up-to-date and there I do want to know how long somebody has been married and how various people are.

Obviously you would want the option of not putting a year of birth, but if people don't mind then why not....

Raphael,

I appreciate and understand your confusion and frustration. We hear you. Stay tuned... much will change in this regard in the coming months.

I too agree, and I was wondering if there has been any further progress in adding this feature.

9 months have passed, any progress on the year of birth?

We've run into some issues with COPPA, which make this challenging. Basically, as a service provider, we can not knowingly accept personal information from someone we know to be under the age of 13. If we provide a field for someone to respond with their birth year, we can determine their age and therefore may be forced to "deny" accepting the update request. No one would like that. The current implementation is the best compromise we have at this point, but we are exploring other alternatives.

Note: The year information in available through Plaxo Online, since it is the member updating their own AB information.
