View Full Version : New Thunderbird 1.5 beta

September 12th, 2005, 08:45 PM
Just curious if there are plans or at least a status of an update the Plaxo extension for Thunderbird to work with the upcoming Thunderbird 1.5 or the beta of 1.5?

I am beta-testing the Thunderbird 1.5beta and this has of course disabled my current install of the Plaxo extension for Thunderbird.

Hi folks,

I'm an early adopter, too, and also very excited about the 1.5 t-bird beta. I've installed it on one of my computers, but -- so I can use the Plaxo Toolbird for Thunderbird -- I've held back on installing it on my other computers.

The bottom line is this: our engineering team can't be coding for a moving target right now; a beta on top of a beta is just likely to be an unpredictable mess, and our engineers'd just have to do additional work each time the core Mozilla t-bird code is changed.

Therefore, it's unlikely that our toolbar will work with the t-bird 1.5 beta. I'll post back here if there are any changes in this stance.

Thanks for your understanding.

You do have a point there. Hopefully though, Plaxo will be updated quickly after Thunderbird is out of Beta.

Thanks,

I used the "nightly testing tools" extension for Thunderbird to override version compatiblilty and Plaxo seems to work fine with my Thunderbird 1.5 Beta 1. YMMV

How about giving us access to nightly builds of the
Plaxo toolbar for TB?

Copart,

I'll run it by our Thunderbird Toolbar lead.

Hello Everyone,
Well I am testing out the new Thunderbird too and I came across one of the extensions that dont work with and found out that be changing one of the files in the .xpi file u can change the maximum version supported number. So I did the same with the plaxo extension and it is seems to be working fine till now ..

Same here. I really want to be able to run all my contact information on the latest 1.5 beta of Thunderbird. I am really liking the interface and don't want to downgrade. For being beta its amazing.

What line can you change in the XPI file (there are two files when WinZip is used)
Any help on making this work would be appreciated.

cheers,
dave

Thanks for the suggestion . . . I found that Plaxo 1.6x works fine in T-bird beta 1.5 for me too.

For adventurous folks looking for the link to the nightly build extension for Mozilla products here it is:

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=958

Install the extension in TB1.5, restart TB, then right click on the Plaxo extension to enable it and follow the directions.

Thanks for the suggestion; I tried this and it worked like a charm. And although I've had continuing problems using the previous TB, TB1.5 works great.

Now, I hope that they add some of the functionality to the T'bird version they have in the IE version, such as the ability to choose when to sync rather than have it happen automatically (and always at the right) /images/graemlins/cool.gif
