View Full Version : Instal Script Not Found
September 17th, 2005, 07:54 AM
Looks like I may be the only one and initiation by fire. So I thought that I would give the 'T'bird a go though Entourage rocks as far as I can see on my mac, well download goes fine a file named plaxotbird.xpi.zip is arriving, then when completed it changes into a folder called plaxotbird with no extensions. So I figure throw a .xpi on the end and all well be good, no go there as when trying to add to the extensions folder in Tbird 1.0.2 I can select Instal.rdf or Chrome containing plaxotbird.jar, with all of these I get an error message on Extension instal saying instal script not found.
Any insights will be appreciated though would love an Entourage version as a preference. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Chris,
Apologies if I'm misunderstanding your efforts so far, but this SHOULD do the trick:
1) Download the file, making sure it has an .xpi extension.
2) Run Thunderbird. Select "Tools" then "Extensions" then click Install.
3) Find and select the xpi file. You may need to restart Thunderbird.
Let me know if this helps, Chris, and thanks for trying the Plaxo Toolbar for Thunderbird!

What happens is that I click on the ThunderBird download and when it starts to download through the Safari built in download programme with OS X tiger 10.4.2 "Plaxotbird.xpi" starts, then it changes to "Plaxotbird.xpi.zip", whenthe download is completed an alert appears as is usual saying that the download contains an application, however the download is no longer "Plaxotbird.xpi.zip" but just a folder named "Plaxotbird". Inside this folder is "install.rdf a Netscape text document, also a folder called"chrome". Inside the "chrome" folder is plaxotbird.jar. There is no .xpi file and when I go to TBird Extensions to add Plaxo the message "Instal Script Not Found" appears. I have unpacked the "plaxotbird.jar file and nothing in there that contains an .xpi .
Okay an update here. Plaxotbird does not download correctly on Safari but does on Firefox. This would be a worthwhile notation to be included on the download page.

In Safari, go to "Safari > Preferences…" and chose the "General" tab and then uncheck "Open “safe” files after downloading". Safari is expanding the zip file that it shouldn't.
Your computer will be more secure also. :-)
