View Full Version : Creating (thousands) of dupes in Tbird
September 23rd, 2005, 04:49 PM
Hi,
I went looking through my plaxo contacts, and saw over 2500 junk addresses. I spent a bunch of time cleaning them out yesterday, and got back down to the ~280 legit contacts.
Today, Thunderbird did a sync with Plaxo, and re-added all the bad contacts back, twice apparently. I now have over 5000 contacts in plaxo and in Tbird.
Can someone from Plaxo please let me know how I can help debug this issue? Many of my entries in Plaxo are blank names (4,756 of them), that I deleted, but now I've got to go through and clean up the other ~200 junk entries.
thanks in advance!

Oh, BTW, the entries that are getting messed up are definitely the ones for companies and other entities in my address book for which there is no person's name (for example, the phone number to a movie theater, or the email address of a mailing list). For each business that's messed up, I see maybe 6-10 entries, many of which look like "Firstname Flowers", instead of "Conroy's Flowers". For some other businesses, I see just dupes of the entry, without the word "Firstname" in place of the blank first name field.
thanks again,
-Nick

Hi Nick
Let me contact you offline and chat about what's happening. I could post an answer, but then I would be referencing details about your account. I'll post an answer after we sort out what happened.

I'm a Plaxo noob but I think that I have a fix for you. T'bird supports multiple address books Plaxo only seems to sync with the one called "Personal Address Book". Go create another address book (within address book, select "file" then "new" then "address book" and put all of those oddball entries (per quoted text)

into the new address book. Mine is called "System Addresses" and Plaxo leaves it alone. Please let me know if this works.
This is my first official post - and I might be solving rather than reporting a problem. Woo hoo!

Hi Sol,
Unfortunately, now that I've gone through the address book more, I see that some other records are also messed up. Your idea is a good one, though, I'm going to save all these entries so that the Plaxo folks can look to see if there's some pattern in the madness. :-)
thanks,
-Nick
