View Full Version : serious faux pas with online support

whilst trying to fix a problem with plaxo in OL, yes, plaxo in OE, no (successfully resolved...had to uninstall, kill contacts, reinstall). i was advised to kill my contacts list.

i store 'lots' of things besides email addresses, addresses and phone numbers in my contact list. pics of important documents go into the notes of applicable contacts, copies of invoices, tax certificates, and on, etc. i may not be the best place for those but OL has become an important filing cabinet for me (and others i know of).

the chat support tech blithely advised me to delete the contacts w/o thinking of something like this (ok..so maybe most people dont) but he could have easily suggested making a backup to a .pst file before killing the contacts (which i did do). so i recovered but had i not been down this road before i might have been in a tizzy once i found out all that stuff was gone.

as it was, whatever happened in the original install that OE didnt come on line, got fixed and it now works. i then killed the newly created/downloaded from plaxo copy of my contacts and re-imported from the saved .pst file.

another thing, i dont remember for sure but i think the restore from plaxo online didnt not pickup info on my distribution lists, only individual contacts. at least my remembrance of the new download does not have the BOLDing of the group entries in it.

anyhow, if someone can pass this on to plaxo support to put another step in the troubleshooting to 'make a backup' before killing stuff.
