View Full Version : "Accept changes" doesnt work in Outlook

November 7th, 2005, 11:58 PM
Hi everybody!
When someone changes his details there are these "XXX has responded to your update request" messages in my inbox.
These show the new details, so far so good!

BUT when I click on "Accept changes" nothing happens, nothing is updated in my adress book in outlook or in plaxo online!!!

I have to go to Plaxo online, open these message in Plaxo online again and then "Accept changes" works.

Any Idea why this doesnt work in Outlook??

Regards

kai

Kai - When you accept the change, this should update the entry in your Plaxo Online address book. Changes are only made on Plaxo Online and then these changes are sync'd down to your local address book the next time the client synchronizes (either automatically or by clicking on the Sync button).

If you are not seeing the changes showing up immediately in your Plaxo Online address book after clicking the "Accept Changes" button after receiving an alert, they I would recommend contacting our support team for further investigation.

Hi PrivacyGuy!

I'm having a similar issue with the Outlook Toolbar:

When a contact has sent me changes and I see the Accept and View links, clicking on View causes an Internet Explorer window to quickly open and close, without ever showing the contents. IE is working fine on my PC, though it is not my default browser. I can't find anything in Preferences that should affect this.

I hate to just blindly accept the changes - even my contacts make errors now and then!

I'm running Plaxo on both a desktop and notebook PC, both using Windows XP Pro SP2, both with MS Office 2003.

Thanks for any advice you may have. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

The Accept changes is not a pop-up page, per se, but perhaps IE is interpretting it as a pop-up and closing down the window as soon as it opens up. This is just a guess on my part, but try disabling pop-ups in IE temporarily and see if that changes the bahavior. If so, you'll likely need to add www.plaxo.com (http://www.plaxo.com) to your list of allowed sites.

Give that a try and let us know.

Hi again PrivacyGuy.

As I mentioned two posts up, IE is not my default browser, but I took your advice and opened IE, added www.plaxo.com (http://www.plaxo.com) to Trusted sites, navigated to your site in IE and ensured that the Google popup blocker was set to allow popups for www.plaxo.com. (http://www.plaxo.com.) But still no joy here. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

For that matter, most of the links from the "My Plaxo" window in Outlook 2003 will not open a browser window. I clicked on "Upgrade to Premium" and I get a small progress dialog titled, "Plaxo Send/Receive Progress", but it disappears as soon as the progress bar completes - less than 1 second. And, yes, I AM really trying to upgrade to Premium services! (See my last post in the Premium Services forum!)

I realize, of course, that I can upgrade from the website here, but now I want to wait and do it from the Outlook "My Plaxo" window - a new test for my Plaxo! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The link for "Get Printed Business Cards" won't open a browser either, yet the "View All Openings" button in the "Plaxo is hiring" ad does open an IE window without any problem.

Is Plaxo hard coded to only try to open an IE window? Would the fact that IE is not my default browser cause any problems? Other apps that insist on opening IE do just that, without incident.

Any thoughts as to what's happening here?

Thanks!

JMac001 - your problem may be quickly exceeding my capacity to answer it, so I'll ask one of our Support folks to contact you to resolve.

Plaxo is simply issuing a URL call that opens up a browser window. There is nothing specifically attempting to call IE vs. any other browser. It will all depend on your local settings.

In general, the nice thing about your problem is it sounds pretty consistent, which should help in looking into it further. I will ask someone to contact you offline.

Sounds good, PrivacyGuy.

Much appreciated!

Hi again, PrivacyGuy.

Haven't heard from Support yet.

But I am seeing the exact same behavior on my notebook PC. Pretty much the same setup: XP Pro SP2, Office 2003, same security settings in Outlook. Just to test, I reduced IE security to "Low", and still no success.

On desktop PC I run TrendMicro Internet Security 2005 for both antivirus and firewall. On notebook PC I run AVG Free version for antivirus and ZoneAlarm Free for firewall. MS Firewall is disabled on both PCs. Plaxo is not causing any antivirus actions, and firewalls on each PC are allowing all Plaxo traffic. And all Plaxo synchronization is working fine otherwise on both PCs.

Are the links in My Plaxo in Outlook actually supposed to open IE? Or do they just notify Plaxo as to my desire to either print business cards or purchase premiom services? As the behavior is identical on both of my PCs, I am beginning to suspect that it is not my setup at all, but either a flaw or a designed behavior that I just don't yet understand.

Possible?

Thanks!

And hurry up and get my Plaxo working right so I can sign up!

hey.

I use the free Plaxo service for MS Outlook 2003 and have the same problem:

- updates appear in plaxo online (I get duplicates when people update their information)
- i get email notifications, that updates have been submitted
- but no changes are made in my outlook contacts

I updated to the newest free version of plaxo, but that was not it.

any help truely appreciated.

kasi.
