View Full Version : Thunderbird 1.5
November 11th, 2005, 12:05 AM
Received the mail from Plaxo about toolbar for Thunderbird. Downloaded the file, used the " New Extension" facility.
Thunderbird tells me this Plaxo toolbar is NOT compatible with version 1.5 !!
Total waste of time and effort.
I would not have expected Plaxo to be so out of date as this version of Thunderbird has been out for at least a month, following the Beta that was out all Summer !!
I am definitely NOT impressed with Plaxo from this, not even a posted work around.( Unless I have missed something? ) Ian. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

You did miss a thread on this topic, which is about five topics down from this one. Thunderbird 1.5 is still a beta version (although it works fine for me) so I don't blame Plaxo for not trying to keep up with the Mozilla folks until they release the final version.
The secret is to use a developer tool to fool 1.5 into accepting extensions which may appear initially to be incompatable. The money quote from the thread::

For adventurous folks looking for the link to the nightly build extension for Mozilla products here it is:
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=958
Install the extension in TB1.5, restart TB, then right click on the Plaxo extension to enable it and follow the directions.

Yes, using the developer tool works for me perfectly right through the 1.5 Beta 2 version, but Plaxo fails, even with forced compatibility, on 1.5 RC1 (release candidate 1). Since the actual version to be released should be nearly identical to the RC, I would assume and hope that Plaxo is busy developing an extension version that will be compatible with it. Until then, I will stick to T'bird 1.5 Beta 2 to hang on to my Plaxo!

Yes, I too just noticed that Plaxo fails on TB 1.5 RC1 with the compatability override. Any other work arounds? I tried clearing out my prefs for plaxo, but that did not work. Hmm. So strange how the beta works but not the RC. Perhaps we will see a RC2 shortly.

Well, since Plaxo for TB is beta, TB1.5 is beta, they should support each other /images/graemlins/wink.gif
