View Full Version : Plaxo E-cards WON'T load in Outlook/IE 7.0 beta

I recently installed Outlook 2003, and Plaxo e-cards worked just fine with I.E. 6.xxx. Now I'm using Microsoft's beta of I.E. 7.0, and when I open Outlook and click on the e-cards button and try to preview or edit ANY of the cards, I get a page load error ("done, but with errors on page.") Plaxo's "LOADING..." graphic stays on the screen, but nothing else ever appears. The page load error isn't specific (in telling me what the errors are.) In short, Plaxo e-cards don't appear to work with Outlook/I.E. 7.0. I've emailed Plaxo customer support twice, and haven't even received a reply. By the way, I.E. 7.0 has performed flawlessly, save for the problem with Plaxo e-cards. Is there a way to have Outlook use Mozilla or another browser as its interface with Outlook?

Plaxo has addressed this here in the forums a few times - you may want to search the forums before posting.

IE7 is a beta, and Plaxo, along with most developers, do not change their applications nor websites to be compatible with beta versions of browsers. You need to try to understand that beta software of all types is constantly be changed - that's exactly why it's in a beta testing phase. Trying to continually alter Plaxo to match changes in a beta version would be tough to do, not to mention fruitless.

For one, Microsoft and other developers do not release enough info quick enough to allow other developers to react. Also, why should Plaxo rewrite their code to try to be compatible with a beta version of IE and take the chance that it will "break" features for users who are using the official stable release of IE?

BTW, for what it's worth, I'm having problems getting ANY browser to fully load the ecards page. Since the last change they made it won't load in Firefox 1.5.01 nor Opera 8.51. It does load, however, in IE6. I have a feeling that IE6 is the only browser that Plaxo tests their products in - probably the only browser that they use for their design criteria.

Outlook will use, or try to use, the default browser that you assigned. You apparently have IE7 set as the default browser on your PC.

If you assign Mozilla as the default browser, Outlook (and the Plaxo Toolbar) will automatically open Mozilla. At least I know that it opens Firefox, which is also a Gecko browser.

When I had Opera assigned as the default browser, however, Outlook would open Opera, but the Plaxo Toolbar dialogs would not. Any actions I tried to perform from the Plaxo dialogs - Review Changes, Accept Changes, Go To Plaxo Online, etc. would simply not work at all. I had to change the default browser to Firefox to get them to work.
