View Full Version : Problems with Jabber Usernames

March 21st, 2006, 06:43 PM
I have a number of contacts with MSN IM accounts that I access via Jabber. Under this scenario their IM names are of the form:

username%hotmail.com@msn.jabber.org.au

However when these are synced with Plaxo the username is truncated and only hotmail.com@msn.jabber.org.au is stored in Plaxo. Is there a problem with the '%' character being embedded in the IM account name?

I've had exactly the same problem.

It wouldn't be so bad if the online version of Plaxo simply had the wrong Jabber username, but the IM adress is changed/truncated in Address Book as well - which is a big problem since it means that the username will be corrupted for iChat (which is integrated with the Apple Address Book).

Just another quick update on this particular issue - the fix will come in an update to our server software, so no new version of Plaxo for Mac is needed once this issue is resolved. The problem appears to be the '%' in the jabber name throwing off some of our IM name handling code.

I mention this not that you can just change your IM handle but it might be useful for anyone setting up a new jabber account. We'll let you know when the issue is resolved.

Wendy,

Has the backend changes been implemented yet? I suspect so as I haven't experienced the problem for a while now.

Thanks
