View Full Version : GMail contact import not working?

I've been playing with the widget, and I seem to always get the "The import failed. If the problem persists, please contact Plaxo Customer Care." when trying to import contacts from gmail. I know I've got the widget setup correctly because imports from Yahoo and Outlook both work perfectly.
I've tried a couple of different gmail accounts just as a sanity check, and no luck either way.
Is this a known issue? A temporary one? Anybody else experiencing it?
Thanks,
Sasha

Hi Sasha,
This is the first I've seen this complaint. I'll forward over to our QA to check it out.
Thanks for sending it in.

Hi Sasha,
It was a bug. We've fixed it. And gmail import should be working now for you. Please let me know if it isn't.
Thanks for reporting this.

I've tried to add contacts from Gmail and LinkedIn several times. I see the list of names, I check the ones I want, I click whatever the "Proceed" button is called, and there's a line that says "0 invitations have been sent".

Hello SuezanneC Baskerville,
What site are you using? The widget on its own does not send invitations.

The gmail is not working again. I tried it on your demo as well and it doesnt work there either.

Hello Tracyl,
Gmail import is working fine for me on the www.plaxo.com/api/widget_demo version.
The problem is somewhere else.
Please send more details - private message if needed - just click on my forum name.

Hi Tracyl,
Looking into this further (thanks for the info!), it seems that some small set of gmail accounts aren't returning the expected info on auth with gmail and the widget erroneously returns the "over 10K contact limit" message.
So engineering is looking into why some accounts are failing. I don't have an estimate on a fix yet.

Hi Kathy,
I'm having issues with GMail contact import as well. When I sync, Plaxo says I've synced successfully, but then the connect point at the bottom reads "We're having trouble synchronizing with your Google account." Meanwhile, I end up with zero contacts in my Plaxo addressbook (calendar syncs perfectly).
When I try the demo widget, I get no errors, however, I also get no contacts.
Unlike some of the people above, I don't get an error saying I have over 10,000 contacts (which I don't).
I'm happy for you to use my account to help troubleshoot the issue.

By the by, it doesn't seem to be a problem with Google. When I go to Facebook and have it download my contacts from my GMail account, it is able to do so without fail.

Hi vivake,
Are you talking about the Plaxo Address Book Access widget that uses Gmail contact import? (you can check if it looks like www.plaxo.com/api/widget_demo)
Otherwise, it may be that you're having an issue with the normal Plaxo Gmail sync. This isn't the best forum for the question, and while I can notify the team, you may have better success contacting Plaxo support directly.

Kathy,
I'm having trouble with both.

I'm also having a problem syncing in my google addressbook and calendar. I try adding a Sync Point, choose Google and enter my gmail email address and my password. I then get asked where to store my contacts and where to store my calendar entries. Then it says it's doing the sync for about 2 minutes and then says "Connection attempt failed because of an incorrect username or password. Please check your info and try again." I've tried several times and no joy. Very annoying.
Hope this helps solve the problem.

Hey Nate -
Two things -
1) for problems with syncing gmail as a user in Plaxo, please contact support. They are best equipped to help you. This forum is for developers putting the Plaxo address book access widget on their site.
2) your post has an email address in it. It may show up in searches and therefore picked up by spam scrapers. You may want to delete your post.
