Hello,
I have installed the latest version of Plaxo and now keep getting the Outlook message every time a write a new email: "A program is trying to access email-addresses you havce stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this? ..." (see attached)
I tried un-installing and re-installing Plaxo but still no luck. This error message disappears once I have unsinstalled Plaxo.
I have not performed any other changes besides “upgrading” to the latest Plaxo version.
I use Outlook 2002.
Any ideas?
Regards
Mojo

Hmm, sorry about that pop-up. Are you seeing this when you first create a new message (like clicking the New button on the Outlook toolbar) or when you try to send the message?
Also, are you using Word as your e-mail editor? That option is in Outlook's Tools, Options, Mail Format tab at the top.
We're not sure what might be causing this and haven't been able to reproduce the problem here.

I've worked with another user in the past who was receiving the exact same problem. At first we thought it was Plaxo related, but we actually tracked the problem down to his installation of Acrobat. The error is a result of OL's security system.
I'm not sure if that is the case here as well, but check out:
http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/security/ to help diagnose and resolve the problem.

Dear Privacyguy,
Great! That add-on did the job and everything works fine now after I have installed it.
plx_out.dll (I think that is the name of the file listed) seemed to have been triggering the pop-up.
Bryan, I got this message when I first create a new message (like clicking the New button on the Outlook toolbar). Furthermore, I am using MS Word as the email editor.

Glad that worked out for you and thanks for reporting the problem though. Plx_out.dll is certainly a Plaxo DLL. This may be something new that has only started with our latest 2.11 release. Our engineering guys are looking into it.

Mojo, and anyone else running into this issue, we've now got a version that should fix this issue. It's available from:
http://down.plaxo.com/down/beta/
This apparently happens only with Outlook 2002 SP3, which is why we never saw this issue here.

Unfortunately I am running Outlook 2003 SP2 with Plaxo 2.1.11.5 (latest version) and I am also getting this annoying pop-up every time I try to create a new message. It appears that MSVCRT.dll is the culprit.

Not sure if this is the same problem, or just something similar. MSVCRT.DLL is a Microsoft DLL and unrelated to Plaxo (it is the MS Visual C Run-time library). You might want to try the other suggestion above to see if that resolves your problem.

Thanks PrivacyGuy,
That's actually how I was able to diagnose the problem, I was running and then re-installed the lated version of Plaxo (which did not solve the pop-up problem), then used the suggestion from above to "[use]...http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/security/ to help diagnose and resolve the problem..." which identified the offending DLL, and when I used the MAPILab security utility to "always" permit it, then the pop-up problem disappeared but is that accidental or does Plaxo touch this DLL?
Any other counsel/recommendations is very much appreciated.

Could it be the result of another SW install? As best as I know, Plaxo does not modify the MSVCRT.DLL. One of our engineers who trolls these forums may wish to correct me though.

I experienced the problem described in this thread after Plaxo automatically upgraded my toolbar to the latest version. It is definitely Plaxo that's been causing this issue (Outlook 2003 SP2) as I was able to get rid of it by disabling the toolbar.
Anyhow, I followed the recommendation above (same DLL MSVCRT.DLL) and was able to overcome the problem only now performance of Outlook has become unbearable. Each character I type takes seconds to appear. Is there an alternative approach or a proper fix to resolve this issue?
Thanks,
Tal

It's very odd that msvcrt.dll is being identified as the DLL - I have no idea why that would be involved in the outlook pop-up.
As a test, you could try turning off Word as your e-mail editor in Outlook. This is in Tools, Options, Mail Format and then there is a checkbox at the top.

Sorry for taking so long to respond.
The problem indeed does not reproduce when Word is not used as the email editor. Unfortunately, I do not have control over this setting (it is disabled by the administrator) and in any case this workaround is not acceptable for my needs.
Is there anything else you can suggest to overcome this issue?
Thanks,
Tal

I'm also experiencing this problem. I have latest version of Plaxo, IE 7, Outlook 2003 SP2. I downloaded the MAPILab thing and that appears to have fixed it.
Fwiw in troubleshooting, I had a fresh laptop, and started up Outlook. I downloaded and installed Plaxo Toolbar, but didn't finish the registration process for a couple weeks. Today I finished it, and immediately after finishing and syncing the AB, I started getting the windows prompt everytime I tried to create a new email.

thanks for the details. Also - was word configured as your editor as well?

This has started happening to me after loading a Windows update. I am still on SP2.
