View Full Version : Lost Functionality in Plaxo Invite

In the latest version of Plaxo, you can only Invite non-members to join. You can't just share your address data with them.

This is very bad, because it is a key function of Plaxo for me. I like to be able to send an address verification to the user. If they happen to be Plaxo, or join then, that's great. But I don't want to seem like I'm forcing them to join Plaxo!!

Please can we restore the original UI - at least for advanced users?

thanks

Riggs - there are both there. You can simply invite someone, or you can send them an update request. The invite is available when you view a contact's details from your AB. But if you prefer to send an UR, you can do so through the click-to-connect button when viewing an email from the contact or by using the update contact wizard.

As an aside, some people simply don't like receiving update requests cause it seems like they are the ones doing all the work ("oh, you want ME to update your address book"). But at the same time, they don't mind joining a service that is recommended to them by a friend. The great thing is if they do join Plaxo, you'll still receive their updated details if they choose to share them with you. You are always able to share your details with them.

Hi Privacyguy,

The current UR via the wizard in the latest verison is in fact cumbersome and a step backward from previous versions.

A UR in the latest version requires multiple mouse clicks. Furthermpore, it takes longer because Plaxo first needs to list all the contacts and then I need to browse down to the desired contact and select him/her.

Prior versions allowed me to click on UR from the contact's details. One mouse click - done.

Please bring back that feature! I agree with riggsCD: This was a key feature of Plaxo.

Does the click-to-connect button work for you for sending an UR?

Not really . . . the first thing I normally do when adding a new contact (not from a received e-mail, but from a business card or otherwise) is to send an update request. This used to be an error-free few-click affair:

1) enter e-mail address
2) save contact
3) sync
4) open contact
5) click "send update request"
6) click OK (unless any defaults need changing)

Using the update wizard is not good as it requires find the contact in my list of (over a thousand) contacts.

Indeed, I had an unsubmitted suggestion that rather than make it *more* difficult to send an update request, you allow an update request to be sent prior to synchronization, or to provide a way to sync a new or modified card without closing it.

Hi, Bongo, good point. You're certainly not alone with this request, and we're actually looking into bringing this back in an upcoming version.

Another way to do something similar is to use "QuickConnect". if you go to My Plaxo, there's a little box on the right that should say "QuickConnect" - if you put in an e-mail address there, it should allow you to send an update request as well as add an entry to your address book.

Bryan:

It seems that the "Invite" button has been switched to an "Ask for updated info" button. And it even works on non-saved / non-synced contacts! This element is a great step forward (even better than before).

However, having it open a web page to send the update not nearly as good as having it send the update from a mini-window.

Really do appreciate your responsiveness.

We agree the user experience could be better, but what you see now is what we could do quickly to at least restore some of the functionality people wanted returned (with even the slight improvement!). We'll likely do it natively within the client in an upcoming client release.

I fully agree that this is a major loss of functionality. It was much easier to request limited updates when necessary through an open outlook contact than is currently available. Is there anyway to get the old toolbar and get that functionality back? If I had known about the change I never would have upgraded.

cxo - are you saying this even after we have restored the "Ask for updated info" button?

I'm just al littel bit confused now. When I saw the "invite xy"Button I thought the same as it is written here in the other postings::mad:

To find out why I can't update each contact with one UR any more I searched the forum and found this thread. So I thought: Fine, it's not only me having these irritation. But I can't find the new button Bongo is talking about. Are there differnt Versions? I'm operating with version 2.11.1.5 but I still see the "invite xy"-Button when I view a contact's details from my AB. The normal UR is only available when the contact is also plaxo member. Or is there some kind of checkbox in the preferences that I'm not seeing?

thanks&regards

any idea when the update button will be back? Not having this on the contacts is killing me! We are seriously thinking about switching to something else because this function was so important to us. Do you have a timeframe when it will be back?

thanks!

Can you tell me what version of Plaxo you're running (Plaxo / About Plaxo)? Also, what does the existing button look like? It should now look like the following (see attachment).

I am running 2.11.1.5 , which it says is the most up to date version.

my button at the bottom of my contacts says "invite chist"

In the previous version, there was a request updated info button...in this version all I have is "invite."

thanks for your help!

We now have a workaround. You can try downloading the new 2.12 BETA Plaxo Toolbar for Outlook/OE from http://down.plaxo.com/down/beta/.

Then if you go to Plaxo, Preferences, and the Advanced tab, there is an option near the bottom for switching to "classic" details view. This should give you the old UI that used to be there, with update request, change history, etc.

Sorry for the inconvenience...

Hello everyone

I can believe what I found when I discovery this forum today, because I was very bit irritated with this functionally lost during last weeks and I didn’t know what did happened with it and why this functionality disappear.

I feel very good now, after I saw that a lot of people with common sense are demanded for a logical functionality.

I can understand to Plaxo team if they thought that the new why to request for updated could be better for their business forcing to the user to use the massive contact update…..but I think they were wrong.

By using the lost Update Request Bottom I and a lot of user let t our contact to know the existence of Plaxo and ask them to update your data and invite to use the excellent Plaxo philosophy…..

PLEASE, Plaxo Team HELP us (the user of Plaxo) to SELL your excellent functionality philosophy across all our contacts that are not yet Plaxo users.

WE ARE the first interested people in achieve that all our contact use (and buy) your Plaxo, please, create a SUPER-Request Update Bottom in order to help us to ask our new and old contacts to updated their data by a web form and let them to use start use Plaxo easily and free to achieve them enter in the Plaxo word and then they love Plaxo and the they will bought Plaxo.

You have one great opportunity in your hands for the next years please don’t loose it with strategic mistakes.

Thanks for your interest in listening the user needs and perception.

I suggest to submit to vote changes before to design of implement changes over Plaxo functionality.

I hope to Plaxo have the vision to extend its horizons because I believe Plaxo is in the right moment y the right place.

Regards

Adrian
