I have over 2000 contacts divided into several folders. However, one folder is 1,590 contacts. I do not understand why Plaxo prevents me from sending an update request to all of my contacts in one fell swoop. You have made the program less valuable to me and more annoying by doing so. I would like to know how to remove the 1000 limit or work around it.

Thank you.

Bookguy - There is no way to remove the 1K throttle. I understand that some members may feel similarly that this makes Plaxo less valuable to them, but we feel this is the proper thing to do for the service in general. In hindsight, this is a control that should have been in place from the beginning. Without it, the fact of the matter is people were simply sending many "low quality" update requests. This had little value to the Plaxo member, and even less value to the recipients of those requests.

From a service perspective, we would much rather see people stay updated automatically. This is done when two contacts are both members and share their details with each other. This is why we've recently introduced "Invites". Rather than sending them an email that is primarily benefitting the member, instead you can invite them to join Plaxo for the benefit of both.

But that said, I agree that update requests can also be very useful and beneficial. The feature is still there. You can send an update request to a non-Plaxo member from the click to connect button, through the UCW, as well as the QuickConnect box in My Plaxo. We are also reexamining if it makes sense to return the update request link back to the Contact Details view.

All the 1K limit did was force me to create separate folders, all with fewer than 1K contacts, and then do a mass update on them.

As for the Click-to-Connect features, these do not work nearly as well as the simply click-to-update button did.

The "invites" you mention are simply a way to force your users to advertise for you, and I have no desire to do that. I will NEVER invite someone to use Plaxo and I doubt anyone else will either. It's a stupid concept invented by people who do not seem to actually work in business like the rest of the world.

I guess I'm confused why you use Plaxo if you feel this way regarding the service.

That's not a productive response. The function of Plaxo, GoodContacts, and other services that allow users to get updated information from their contacts is a real and needed function. My issue is with the way you folks are going about it, which lately is by (1) decreasing the functionality of the program with things like 1000 contact update limits (which can easily be avoided by creating multiple folders with less than 1000 contacts, so all you are really doing is annoying your users with this limit) and (2) eliminating convenient functions like the one-click request update on individual contact cards, which is useful if you add someone new to your contact list from someplace other than an email (I realize this is a shocker, but many folks still add contacts from places like a business card or telephone call and not an email).

You folks need to spend some time with actual small business owners. I think you'll find many opportunities to make more money and not waste your time simply trying to find more members, a percentage of which will pay for the upgraded version of Plaxo. You should stop trying to get your current member base from being your advertising/marketing resources. The reality is that I came to Plaxo because I got update requests and checked out the program. Advertising the FUNCTIONALITY of the program is far more effective than asking people to send emails to their friends "inviting" them to join Plaxo.

It seems that I have found a solution on how to make selecting 1000 or less contacts for an update as previously described at http://forums.plaxo.com/showthread.php?t=3260&highlight=send+update+contacts

That doesn't solve your problem certainly of sending more than 1000 updates at once, but it definitely makes it easier to select 1000 in now time, instead of clicking on your mouse a 1000 times

However, Plaxo seems to have their package updated. Meaning, any button you click on your Outlook will redirect to the online webform instead as previously, open a window within Outlook that allows selecting 1000 addresses in no time.

Seems Plaxo has downgraded their updated version :(

So, I'll now sit down an click a 1000 times
