View Full Version : Include Groups rather than omit

I think that the way of syncing groups is strange. For example I have several groups in my address book but only want to sync one group. How do I sync just the work group? I would like to be able to click on the work group and include this group, rather than have to tediously find all addresses that are not in the work group and put them in a group to be excluded. Is there a way of doing this?

Sorry, not at this time. The thought is that most people would want to synchronize all of their contacts so they have all of their info available to them. But for the case where you really do want to limit what information you sync with Plaxo, we provide the Omit Group(s) from sync feature.

So, at this point, if you want to share just your 'work' contacts, you'll need to prepare at least one more group of 'non-work' contacts to use our sync exclusion feature.

I agree with aunderwo, the omit feature is illogical. Either i want to sync everything or a specific group or groups.

I can certainly understand your perspective on this and agree that it would be a nice option to have. I think we didn't implement 'opt in' sync because it could cause more work to manage your sync setup than 'opt out' sync. A quick example is that in 'opt out' sync if you delete a group that has been marked as Omitted from Sync, you have to do nothing to maintain the kind of sync you expect. In 'opt in' sync, if you delete the one and only folder that you have marked to sync, then Plaxo for Mac silently sits there appearing to be doing work for you but actually is not sync'ing anything. We will likely need to pop up an alert to tell you to change your sync preferenes. This then causes you to have to either take immediate action to decide on a new sync setup or try to remember to do this at some time in the future - which will likely be forgotten.

Regardless, of the potential pitfalls of 'opt in' sync, I'll make sure that we keep this feature request open as we work to improve Plaxo for Mac.
