I keep my contacts in Categories in Outlook such as Personal, Customers, Prospects, Business, etc. There are times when I would like to do an update request or send a card to a specific category. For instance, send a holiday ecard to all personal contacts, but not to my customers or prospects. How can I do this without listing all contacts and selecting them individually? I have over 7000 contacts in Outlook so selecting any of them individually is too cumbersome.:D

We will have category support in the next version of Plaxo Online.

In the meantime, you can individually select contacts, select all in a particular folder (client only), or select all in all folders.

Please note though: 7000 contacts is a lot of contacts. If you intend on sending update request emails, please keep in mind that people do not appreciate receiving email from people they do not know. We have certain throttle controls built into Plaxo to prevent abusive behavior, accidental or otherwise. But you should still be sure you are sending update requests to contacts who are likely to recognize you as a known contact.

Thank you, I look forward to having the Category support in the next version!

Your comments about update requests from unknown people is right on, that is why Categories are so crucial so I can seperate my customers from my prospects.

THANKS

Any idea of approximately when the next version with Category support will be released?

When I add a new contact to my Outlook 2003 I usually will at that time add an Outlook category to my entry and then send an update request via Plaxo (or vice versa). What I believe happens is that when the user responds to my update request or Plaxo syncs it because they are already a Plaxo member -- somehow Plaxo determines it to be a new contact because the categories field don't match. This is probably the cause of all my duplicates in Outlook. Any fix for this?
