A bar i have in my address book has just signed up with Plaxo and so now they are listed as as tho they are a friend and have access to all my home info. Obviously I dont want this, is there any way to block people from having your home info if they are in your address book?

Otherwise any firm that signs up for Plaxo that i have in my book already is automatically going to get my private info.

I may have to close my membership if thats the case. Its either that or delete everyone from my address book that im not sure id want to have my details, and that is not going to work!

Alex - I think you may misunderstand how Plaxo's permissioning works, so allow me to explain.

As the Plaxo member, you decide who and how your Plaxo cards (Work / Home) are shared with others. Simply because someone is in YOUR address book, does NOT mean they have access to your Plaxo card information. You have to first grant them access, based on your privacy settings or by explicitly granting them permission, and they must also maintain an existing entry for you.

In your case, if you are uncomfortable sharing your details with anyone, simply configure both cards as Private.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

If you recall, when you configured your Plaxo cards, each card had it's own privacy setting. This privacy setting determines how the Plaxo card may be shared automatically with other Plaxo members.

There are 3 possible privacy settings.

Members - the card will be shared with any Plaxo member who knows you.
Contacts - like Members, the card will be shared with any Plaxo member who knows you, BUT the member must also be in your own address book
Private - the card is not shared with any Plaxo member, unless you explicitly grant the member access. You may grant someone access to your card(s) by sending them your cards or giving them permission through the service.

For example, I am comfortable configuring my Work card as "Members" but wish to keep my Home card "Private". Any other Plaxo member, whether they exist in my Address Book or not, can simply enter in my work email address into their own address book, and automatically connect with my Work card details. Any time I update my work card details, the existing entry these members maintain for me will be automatically updated. The "Members" settings allows me to update the largest potential audience of Plaxo members who wish to stay in touch with me.

On the other hand, these same individuals do not have access to my Home card, which is Private. If I update my Home details, these other members do not receive the updated information. But I may chose to explicitly grant my family members access to my Home card. Plaxo would automatically update the Plaxo address books of family members each time I updated my private Home details.

The final point worth emphasizing is permissioning is uni-directional. It is possible for someone to grant you permission to their Plaxo card, but this does not mean that you have granted them permission to your card. As I mentioned, you control how and to whom you wish to share your cards.

Hello!

I'd like to add to this post -

Is there a way to not even use Plaxo for contacts?

In other words - I ONLY want the ability to view my Outlook Calendar remotely.

I DO NOT want to bother with Plaxo Cards - whatever that is. Or with having to configure everyone in my address book a certain way for privacy.

Please advise - Many thanks!
