Hi

seem to be having a problem with the address book sidebar. Contacts that I know to be Plaxo members and used to be labelled as such are progressively losing their labels. Some currently have the green tick in the top section of the sidebar, indicating that the contact has replied to my request for information and yet in the bottom section are labelled as "not a Plaxo member".

Whats happening and what can I do about it? I know that these contacts havent just terminated their membership as they are still listed as members on the website. But as it is I cant have control over the permissions from address book.

I have a few Plaxo for Mac users report this issue. It's not clear yet what is causing the disconnect. Out of curiosity, have you used a Duplicate Remover tool on any of these contacts (either the one built in to Apple's Address Book or the Plaxo Online Address Book Duplicate Removal tool)?

The general remedy that I've found to work for orphaned contacts has been to go into Address Book, select the affect contact(s) and drag the item (or selection) to the Mac Desktop so that Address Book will create a vCard (list) for the selection. I then delete the entries from my Apple Address Book, force a sync using Sync Now, and then drag the vCard from the Desktop back into the Names list in Address Book. Within one or two syncs, my contacts have always hooked up again.

no, that doesnt seem to work, they just have lost the green ticks saying that they have replied. now they just look like any regular contact.

one thing that is curious is that if i try to click on request update it tells me that "The contact must have an e-mail address to request an update."

this happens with all my contacts, even ones with email addresses.

in fact i just looked at your online copy of my contacts and i see that not only do none of them have email addresses recorded for them but that since doing that last sync you recommended i now seem to have duplicates of everyone in my book!

(which puts me over 1000 contacts and its now being suggested that i get plaxo premium which includes a duplicate remover! the irony of this isnt lost on me but i have to say that im not very inclined to do this at this present moment!)

this is getting worse!!!

what can i do?

Do you have duplicates in your Apple Address Book at this time or only on Plaxo Online?

If the duplicates are only in your Plaxo Universal Address Book, you can save your situation by creating a new Contact folder online and then select that new folder from within the Plaxo Configure->Sync panel. After you have successfully sync'ed with the new folder on Plaxo Online, you can safely delete the former Contact folder that contains all the duplicates.

Regarding the problem of using the Request Update feature, that option currently only considers email addresses that sync with Plaxo Online as valid destinations (this will likely be modified in future updates to the software). But my first inclination is to suppose that you've set custom labels for your contact's email addresses. Plaxo will only sync emails with the labels: 'home', 'home 2', 'home 3', 'work', 'work 2', 'work 3'. capitalization counts. If you aren't using these labels, they will not be sync'ed with Plaxo Online and you probably won't be able to 'connect up' with other Plaxo members.

Does this apply to your circumstance?
