Any word on this? Once this is enabled, I'll be able to finally switch to Gmail full time!

Personally, I use Outlook to sync with my gMail account, and then Plaxo does all the great updating. Of course I would love to completely switch to Thunderbird, but for some reason my palm won't sync with it. That's my problem though.

What do you use to sync Outlook contacts with Gmail?

I'd love to know as well! (I am on a Mac)

I'd also like to see Plaxo synch with Gmail Contacts - and am of course wondering, as the others are, what markie is using :)

Contact sync would be great!
Currently, I "sync" my Gmail and Outlook accounts by exporting the Gmail file and incorporating it into Outlook. Eliminate duplicates. I then delete everything in Gmail. Lastly, I import the "new" Outlook CSV file. Whew!
What ARE you using Markie?

We are actively working on getting Gmail contact sync released - it's a tricky animal. :) We will announce on this forum and elsewhere when we have Gmail contact sync ready for test.
Thanks,
Hong

Will it just support normal @gmail.com accounts, or will it also support Gmail For Domains (your personal domain hosted by gmail)?

Our first priority is to get out @gmail.com support, followed by Gmail for Domains in a subsequent release.
Thanks,
Hong

OK, so Gmail Contacts Sync is in process... that's great! I've noticed gmail contacts is a bit weird anyway and doesn't really follow the format of 'normal' contacts systems so I don't expect it to be easy!
The new Plaxo is great, I've got loads of stuff all synced up now, including Thunderbird Contacts AND Google Calendars in Thunderbird (using a Plaxo add-on, Lightning and another add-on for Google Calendars), BUT I really really need Gmail contacts synced. I use the Gmail client when I am out and about so it's a pain that the contacts aren't in sync.
I've been waiting for this for a long time, can Plaxo give a release date, or an approximate one?
Also, I have an Inbox.com account and would very much like to see support for that as well. Inbox.com provides an excellent email service, as well as a very good contacts system, and loads of other stuff. Does Plaxo intend to sync with Inbox.com in the future? (it was rated 2nd in this top 10 list, ahead of Yahoo and Hotmail, and I agree: http://email.about.com/od/freeemailreviews/tp/free_email.htm)
Thanks

This is exciting news. How far along are you on this project at this point? I'd love to have this working as well!

I look forward to Plaxo syncing with Google contacts.
I have many more email addresses in gMail than Plaxo, and I wish it to stay that way.
I would like the sync to have the following features...
Google contacts merged together when same name exists with several emails.
Contact photos bought across from Plaxo if no photo is already specified in Plaxo.
Option: New Google contacts are notified in Plaxo, with an OPTION to add them.
Good luck!

This is the biggest gap I see in Plaxo right now.... no Google contact sync. I second the options laid out above.
The second biggest addition would be OTA blackberry sync.

Agree. This would be highly desirable.

Any updates on this, yet? I'm guessing that this is going to wait until the next GMail update comes out. I'm assuming that Google is going to do a better contact system in GMail with the upgrade, so all the API's will change. So my guess is sometime in the Winter. (I'm in upstate New York, so "Winter" lasts for about 6 months for me!)

I have a weird google sync problem: I can't add the syncpoint for my gmail account. I enter username/pw, then it just says "connecting," but nothing ever happens -- I've left it overnight, and nothing.
BUT, when I add my wife's gmail username/pw, it does connect - at least enough to tell me the account is already linked to a different plaxo account. I was able to successfully set up my wife's plaxo account with a google syncpoint on the same computer, so the problem would appear to be caused by something in my google account, not a browser issue.
I recently deleted all calendar events in google because I thought that might be it, but same result. I also tried this on firefox - same result.
Any ideas?

I now have good contact sync as an option. Nice addition.

It's still only one-way, but this is great progress!

Guess I missed it was currently one way only. Look forward to seeing this really work.

FYI to all people looking for a plaxo sync option with blackberry.
Google just recently released a sync tool that syncs your google calendar with your blackberry. The tool DOES NOT sync the address book yet, but I bet google gets it done before Plaxo does.
Read about it here:
http://www.rimarkable.com/sync-your-blackberry-calendar-with-google-calendar
PS - Sorry to dis you - plaxo, but we've been waiting along time and it looks like Google beat you to the punch.

are there any plans for two way google contact syncing? The one way sync feature is really causing me problems because I use the gmail website, outlook and my pocket pc.
Google has a new version of their api now.
The page says:
The Google Contacts Data API allows client applications to view and update Contacts content in the form of Google Data API feeds. Your client application can request a list of a user's contacts, edit or delete content in an existing contact, and query the content in an existing contact.
Here are some of the things you can do with the Contacts Data API:
* Synchronize Google contacts with contacts on a mobile device
* Maintain relationships between people in social applications
* Give users the ability to communicate directly with their friends from external applications using phone, email, and IM
