View Full Version : Plaxo 3.0 for Mac sync-errors!

I use Plaxo on two computers with Mac & WinXp on both. On the Win-partitions, everything goes allright, but on Mac, nothing works since the last edition of Plaxo for Mac (346). The problem seems to be an ability to write to iCal and Address book. This problem occurs on both my Mac-computers. Earlier, when I used version 333, it all worked, but not any longer. What might be the problem? The computers are also no longer able to be registered as Sync points.
Here's one of the error-codes extracted from Console.app:
2007-06-26 18:15:49.939 Plaxo Assistant[568] Writing to /Users/***/Library/Application Support/Plaxo/PlaxoiCalSyncStatus with status: 1
*** is my username truncated
Any clues what to do?
Sincerely

Victor-
Sorry to hear of the problems you're experiencing with build 346 of our Mac software. I'm sure we can get the sync issues resolved fairly quickly with a little back and forth dialog.
The first problem that we need to resolve is the issue that you can no longer register your Macs as sync endpoints. Can you elaborate on this problem? How far in the process do you get in setting up your sync endpoint? Is the Plaxo menu item still visible when you attempt to sign in with your email and password?
I really don't want to jump to conclusions before getting more information from you, but the one case where a Plaxo member was not able to set up a new sync point eventually led to a corrupted Address Book which was causing our software to crash. You could test this theory (non-destructively) by simply closing all of your open applications (including Plaxo), go to ~/Library/Application Support/ and then rename the "Address Book" folder found there to "old Address Book". Next, log out and then back in to your Mac computer account (this will generate a new Address Book data store) and then see if you can create a new sync point. If this doesn't change things for you and you want to go back to using your other Address Book just quit all your open applications again, and rename the "old Address Book" folder to its original name. (you'll need to remove the newly created Address Book folder first, of course)
Please let us know about how far you get in the sync endpoint setup process and/or if you decide to try the little experiment.

Dear Drew,
Thank you for your advice! Unfortunately this idea did not help. There are no problems registering a new/renew a sync point, everything seems allright during the setup, except that no Plaxo contacts or events are downloaded. There is, however, a progress bar showing some kind of action, though by the use of Growl, I immediately know that the setup was not successful due to the error message of an error in a xml-instruction. After having setup a sync point, my web browser opens Plaxo, and a note tells me of a successful installation of the sync point. So far so good, but no new sync point is visible at the website, and the sync process shows the same error message over and over again in my Growl notice box. Strange, however, is that my two Mac computers show different messages in the logfiles of Console, but in Growl the same message is shown and they react exactly the same during and after setup. Do you want me to send you my logfiles? If so, send me an e-mail to me and I'll send them to you.
Sincerely,
Viktor Aldrin

i'm experiencing the same problem as viktorj does:
i set up a sync point, the application opens a web page and a note tells me of a successful installation of the sync point but there's no sync point icon visible at the website and the sync does not work.

Mdkia and Viktor...I've messaged both of you privately for further follow-up to this problem.
Thx.

Same problem here (I think). The Plaxo icon in the top finder bar displays a triangle warning sign, although no error message appears when I choose "sync." On the Plaxo online site, I can't add the Mac as a sync point.

Any update on this front?
I re-installed the Outlook toolbar on my PC and Plaxo 3.0 on my Mac, but nothing changed. I also tried subscribing to the trial Premium service, on the off-chance that it might help...but it didn't.
At one point earlier in the week things mostly worked. iCal was updating both ways and Address Book was sending, but not receiving. Trying to fix that issue is what precipitated my problems. I think I might have been using build 333 at the time.

Sorry for the delay in sharing with the group. With the help of Viktor and mdkia I think we've discovered the problem.
It appears that our default sync setup code does not correctly setup the link to a contact folder on Plaxo Online (typically when you live outside the United States). This invalid link causes a general failure in our sync code.
To work around this problem (until we can release a permanent fix) you need to use the Advanced Setup option during sync endpoint setup on your Mac.
To do this:
1. Go into the Plaxo system preference panel and click the Account tab
2. Click the “Reset Sync Endpoint” button.
3. Click on “Setup Plaxo”
4. Enter your account info and continue with setup
5. Click “Advanced Setup”
6. The pop-up control in the window should be displaying your primary contact folder on Plaxo Online; click the pop-up control and click the folder name (or on one in the list of names if you have more than one contact folder on Plaxo Online) that you want to sync with. This action will fix the problem we've identified in our software and allows a good connection to your contacts.
Continue through the rest of the setup until Plaxo informs you that setup is complete. Your contacts (and calendars) should now be synced correctly to Plaxo Online.
We will have this fixed for the next update to Plaxo for Mac which we hope to release sometime next week.
By the way, as frustrating as it is that this bug has popped up, every new release fixes problems. Build 333, for example had a bad habit of duplicating your iCal calendars within iCal every time you started up Plaxo for Mac. That's fixed in build 346 along with other improvements. This latest bug is really unfortunate and atypical (we've been pretty good about not introducing bugs with new releases)

Drew,
That worked great! Thanks for your help. I feel like I should have been a bit more resourceful in trying different options.
Thanks again for the tip and I'm excited to be using Plaxo - it has really bridged the gap between my work and home computing!
