View Full Version : Not all google calendars syncing

I just setup Plaxo yesterday, and set it up to sync to my google calender, which has my main calendar, and my wife's calendar and US Holidays under "Other Calendars". In Plaxo, I see all my primary calendar items, and I see all the US Holiday items (twice, actually, since Plaxo has its own set). But I don't see any of my wife's items.

When I click on the Calendars popup at the bottom of the Plaxo page, I see her calendar listed, and it's checked.

Am I doing something stupid?

Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry, can you email me at hong@plaxo.com with your Plaxo e-mail address (and also your gmail address)?

Thanks,
Hong

Hi Jerry, I checked into your issue. Currently, our policy is not to sync Google calendars to your account which belong to other people. In this case, the calendar which wasn't syncing belongs to your wife. We are working to add this functionality in a future release. Stay tuned.

Thanks!
Hong

Seriously?!?! Oh man, that really changes things for me. How come when I initially set up the sync point it included all calendars, including ones that are owned by others, but now they won't sync?!?

I can understand not syncing calendars that are subscribed to as read-only, kind of, but if the other person has given you 100% ability to edit the calendar and you're actively adding data it doesn't make sense that Plaxo won't work with it after the initial sync.

Please move this up on the priority list, because for now it makes Plaxo 3.0 near useless for me. :-(

Looks like it's not calendars that belong to other people, but specific events that you have not created. For example, I share a calendar with several google users who I collaborate with. The events that I create are syncing. The events that THEY create are not.

In my case, it doesn't seem to be tied to the original creator of the calendar. If I add events to other people's calendars, they will show up.

To me this severely cripples the google calendar sync, as the whole beauty of google's system is the collaborative aspect. Without that, it's useless.

Looking for a fix soon - Love the rest of the product, by the way!!

Thanks for the feedback, folks! This really helps me get the priority of the feature increased. :) We leaned on the side of overly paranoid, and I think we can probably relax this constraint (at least partially) in an upcoming (soon) release. Stay tuned, I will post on this forum with progress.

Thanks Hong, you guys are the best!
I would try to check another thing:

In Google calendar you have 2 options of editing levels on someone else's calendar (shared calendar, but note: you will not be able to do this if its not yours... - ask the other person to do this for you...)

If you are the main creator / editor of the calendar then to view this go on your Google calendar page to 'settings' > 'calendars' > [shared calendar name], under Share with specific people you will see the following 2 options:(1) Make changes AND manage sharing (2) Make changes to events

Only the 1st option does a full sync for me!

Hong, I'm sure you guys could figure this out a little better with a few minutes of testing.

Here's my 2 cents...

What do you mean by "partially"?

If I can see and edit it on my Google Calendar, I should be able to see and edit it on my Plaxo Calendar. If it's read-only on Google, it should appear but be read-only on Plaxo, and those settings should carry over to other sync points. It's that simple.

I don't see what's the problem here, unless there's a technical issue you can't accomplish this. Plaxo should respect whatever rights have been granted to me by the calendar's owner. In one case, it's a calendar that *I* created on a different Google account, so trust me, it's okay. ;-)

I was having this same issue with my wife's Gcal calendar during the private beta. I mentioned it to Amber (who was dealing with another issue), but hadn't yet heard back. It would be great if this were implemented soon!
