I upgraded from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007. I had the latest version of the Plaxo 3.0 toolbar loaded and working with O2003. Under O2007, the toolbar will briefly appear when starting Outlook, then disappear. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Plaxo 3.0, looked in the Trust Center to see if the toolbar was enabled (Yes), disabled, re-enable the Plaxo toolbar, all to no avail.

Well I fixed the problem.
I uninstalled Plaxo.
I did a repair of the Office 2007 install.
Reboot.
I reinstalled Plaxo.
Fixed.

Chris, thanks for following up (to your own post!). We have received a few reports in the field of similar issues, mostly stemming from an install of Outlook that has been changed in some way (usually from an upgrade to 2k7). We will see if there's anything we can change in our own code to avoid breaking during the upgrade, but in the meantime we will add the info to our FAQs.

Thanks!
Hong

I have a fresh install of Vista Ultimate and a fresh install of Office 2007 (no upgrades). I downloaded the Plaxo installer for Outlook and ran it. It seemed to run fine, save for the fact I got an error from Windows that "Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host" had "stopped working". However, once the installer finished and started Outlook, there wasn't any indication that Plaxo had been installed in Outlook.

I restarted my machine and tried again. I got the same error message again. And again, no presence of Plaxo in Outlook.

Is Plaxo compatible with Vista and Outlook 2007?

Answered my own question.

In short, no, Plaxo is not currently compatible with Vista.

However, if you manually disable Vista's UAC system, then you can force an install.

Yes, the latest versions of the Plaxo Toolbar for Outlook should be compatible with Vista and Outlook 2007. Note however on Vista you do need to install and run it under an Windows Vista account with Administrator privileges at this time.

You might want to try going into Outlook, Tools, Trust Center, and somewhere inside there should be a COM Add-Ins button - if you press that does Plaxo show up in the list? If not, you can try adding it manually - add the file plx_out.dll, which should be in c:\program files\plaxo\<version>.

If that still doesn't work, try e-mailing your plaxo.log file to bryan-forum here at plaxo.com. This log file can be found in c:\users\<Windows name>\AppData\Local\Plaxo\plaxo.log (note that AppData may be a hidden folder).

Hope this helps - thanks....

Thanks for the reply, Bryan. I have administrator privileges on my machine but could not install Plaxo until I disabled UAC.

I'll send you that log file you mention.
