I have been using the Plaxo 3.0 beta preview for a few days now, and I'm very excited, if It will work as advertised it will be a real life saver for me, who works with multiple machines in multiple locations all day long.

I set up an account online and downloaded build 346 for the Mac and everything set up fine and dandy, Contacts loaded up, Calendar events went online just fine. I then set up other sync points with my google calendar and my linkedin accounts. everything worked just fine. I deduped my contact list made edits and it all synced back to my Mac no problem. It was a thing of beauty.

I then made a few changes to iCal on my Mac and it wouldn't sync. I cannot get the changes in iCal to update online (and thus update over to google). The Plaxo ToolBar Icon indicates a Triangle with an ! in it but gives no further indication of what the error is.

The Apple console is little help either.

I have submitted the error to Plaxo feedback but beyond the automated response I have heard nothing back. Again my contacts sync like a champ, so its not that its not connecting or anything, its just the iCal data that won't change.

Any thoughts?

There are a number of things that might be happening to inhibit iCal sync. Plaxo for Mac ties into Apple's Sync Services for iCal integration so one thing to check is if Sync Services activates after you make your change in iCal. You can do this pretty simply by using Apple's Activity Monitor application (found in the Utilities folder) and looking for "SyncServices" in the list of running applications. After you make a change to iCal, you should (shortly afterwards) see SyncServices start to use some CPU time and our program, too, Plaxo Assistant. If this is not happening then something is wrong in iCal and/or sync services and we have some tips on how to work with those cases. Can you let us know if you see this behavior in Activity Monitor?

Alternately (or in addition to the former suggestion), you can send your PlaxoAssistant.log file (that our software generates) in to our support group. It will let us know if Plaxo for Mac is encountering any problems in attempting iCal sync. You can locate this file easily with Spotlight.

yes both the syncserver and plaxo see some activity in the monitor after making an iCal change. Not Syncservices tho, I think you meant SyncServer. But still no changes reflected in the online calendar.

I'll try to send the contents of the PlaxoAssistant.log into support services but since they havn't contacted me in 3 days, I'm not overly optimistic.

I put the output of the log file you want on my site, it's too long to post here, I'll send it in too.

I still have yet to hear from plaxo support on this issue. I can only hope this it's because everyone is feverously working on a new solution/build :)

I'm having the same problem. Plaxo 3 seems to have done an initial sync with iCal and now it doesn't seem to be communicating with the app anymore.

I don't see any activity with syncerver after I make an iCal change.

Changes are, however, being published to Zimbra just fine.

I finally heard back from Plaxo support today ( a week later ) and their answer was a stamped "try it again later" reply. like that hasn't happened over 100 times with manual and automatic syncs since then....

But I passed along the log output to the person who replied, we'll see if I get anywhere now.

I hope they fix it up soon to the standard of the excellent Windows implementation. I'm paying $120 a year on a Zimbra account just to keep my Mac and PC in sync and I sure would love to dump that expense!

You are correct, I meant to look for SyncServer in the active application list. Your log file was very helpful. There is a problem that is causing your sync's to repeatedly fail. There is a problem with some of your events that are set up as yearly recurrences. I'm looking into the problem now and hope to be able to report progress on (and hopefully a resolution to) the issue. This isn't a general problem with yearly events - I've tested myself setting up birthdays and anniversaries without problems, but something has happened to your data (perhaps through syncing with other devices or software???) I'll let you know of any progress on the problem.

If you see no activity in SyncServer sometime after you make edits in iCal then there is no way for Plaxo to pick up the changes. I don't know if Zimbra is somehow interfering with normal sync service behavior or something else is the cause.

If you'd be willing to dig down into this problem with me please email me. My email is: drew (domain is plaxo.com)

Please include your PlaxoAssistant.log file to aid in problem solving.

Thanks,

Wolfman-

Can you let me know how you've set up some of your yearly events? Some that strike me as a bit curious are: President's Day, MLK Jr. Day, DST Begins, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Columbus Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.

The interesting things about these events in your iCal are that they all specify which day and week the events recurs in, but they do not specify the month which I think is invalid.

If you wanted to try an experiment, try resetting these events - by resetting (or removing) these events, I think that Plaxo for Mac would then successfully sync with Plaxo Online.

The next step is to figure out how these events got into your calendar to begin with since I'm pretty sure iCal's interface wouldn't have allowed it and Plaxo does not set up events this way.

Could you let me know how these were first entered into your calender?

Thanks,
Drew
