View Full Version : Sync does not work

Hello,

I am running into the same problems that have been described in this forum even in 2006. Everything was working fine (I am using Outlook 2002 in an XP/Parallels-box on Mac) until recently I got that sync problem hinting to a problem with the "Internet connection".
No firewall problem, no connection problem, no Parallels/Mac-problem (I get the same messages on my wife's Dell XP notebook).

After reinstall, the error message is different, but only because (I assume) now installing is being aborted when first sync doesn't work.

From reading in this forum I get the impression that I am
a) not alone with this problem
b) the problem has been around for quite some time
c) the problem affects lots of different setups
d) you have not gotten to the core of the problem (I must assume), as
e) your solutions didn't work so far (or only for few people)

Anything you can do about it?

Thanks,
FredFlintstone

It's probably best at this point to try contacting support via e-mail (at plaxo.com) and they can take a look at what's going on.

This "problem" actually can be caused by many different things. It's possible it was actually a temporary outage on the Plaxo side, in which case things should work ok if you try again. Also there is a 5 minute timeout - if you are trying to sync a large amount of data and it takes more than 5 minutes to process, the connection will close. If you're running into this, try syncing only part of your data in Outlook - you can use the Advanced Options in the setup window to control which items are synced (try turning off calendar, etc.).

If it's not one of those issues then most likely it's due to a setting with your Internet settings in IE, such as proxy settings (not Firefox) or with some other software, such as a firewall, or possibly a network or hardware device.

Bryan, thanks for your answer.

I did actually send a mail to support, but as I find it always helpful to have those things discussed in a forum (if only to find others with the same problem) I thought it a good idea to post here, too.

A temporary outage on the plaxo side is possible, but it would have been numerous temporary outages during the course of several days and I'd suspect more people to complain about that.

Something like a timeout I suspected when initially the problem happened while Azureus ws downloading. However, duting my expermients to get Plaxo running again (remember, it DID actually work) I did of course quit Azureus and all other usual suspects.

Taking a hint from a forum message from 2006, I tried to sync only parts of my data. No success.

IE reaches the internet without problems, so the problem is likely not there. I don't use the XP firewall, so this is no issue. I use an IPCop firewall, but this did not cause problems 2 weeks ago, so I am confident it doesn't cause problems no (I did not change a thing in the firewall).

Network or other hardware devices are unlikely culprits, too. Everything else is running fine so even if this was a hardware problem (which I think impossible) the question would remain why Plaxo should be the only application to cause this problem.

Do I need to forward any ports? Can't imagine why, but I thought I'd better ask...

Thanks a lot,
FredFlintstone

NO luck with support. They just seem to say this is most unusual. I can't get anything to synchronize now. My address book is not synching. What to do?

yeah, mine is the same thing. I am using Plaxo to synchronize my office Outlook 2003 contacts and calendars to my home PC.

After the purchase of my new office computer, I have attempted several times to install and reinstall the Plaxo program, but it does not work! So I asked the Plaxo customer service what is causing the problem. According to them, my Plaxo log file does not show any error message. However, I always get “synchronization error” until now. After installing Plaxo and starting the sync, I only reach the point where after inputting my username and password and clicking sync, a bar would appear and halfway through, “sync error”.

The support staff tried to help by suggesting two things: 1. If you are able to access the Plaxo ‘synchronization manager’ in your Outlook.
A. Open ‘Outlook’.
B. Click on ‘Plaxo’ à ‘Advanced’ à ‘Synchronization manager’.
C. Uncheck the box for ‘Sync my Contacts/Calendars/Tasks/Notes.
D. Click on ‘Ok’.

2. If you are not able to access the Plaxo ‘synchronization manager’ in your Outlook.
A. Right click on the ‘Plaxo installer’ file (if you have saved in your computer).
B. Click on ‘Run as Administrator’.

However, both didn't work until now.
