I can't see an answer to this in the FAQs/help, so ...

I have about 355 real contacts, each of which appears 5 (yes 5) times.

My setup:

Outlook 2007/MS Exchange 2007/Vista/Plaxo on a PC

Entourage 2008/Exchange/OSX Leopard/Macbook Pro/iPhone
Entourage 2008/Exchange/OSX Leopard/iMac

I use Plaxo as web backup (i.e *not* on the Macs). I use Entourage on the Macs to sync my calendar and contacts with iCal/Address Book (i.e. *not* Plaxo.

Entourage only shows the 355 genuine contacts, as do Address Book/Mac and the iPhone.

So I infer there's somehting funny going on with Plaxo/Outlook, because they show 5 copies (up-to-date ones) of each contact.

Further info: for each of the 5 copies. created times are 09.21, 09.26, 11.47, 14.04 and 14.08 yesterday (which would correspond to Entourage updates).

Can anyone shed any light? I'd assume this was an Entourage/Exchange syn problem if it wasn't for the fact that only Plaxo and Outlook exhibit the issue.

Thanks

Nick

We have not seen this sort of issue in a while, however if you have multiple sync engines working on the same data, this could cause problems (in general, not specifically with Plaxo). If you have multiple sync engines syncing between Plaxo and Exchange, that might cause something like this.

Also once Plaxo and Outlook are in sync, duplication shouldn't be possible just through syncing. Also if your Entourage and Exchange are showing different numbers of contacts, and if the creation time of the duplicates corresponds with Entourage updates, then it sounds like the Entourage / Exchange connection may be involved somehow.

I would recommend trying to isolate the issue - first uninstall Plaxo and just have the Entourage <-> Exchange <-> Outlook working properly and show no duplicates. Then make sure nothing is syncing w/ Plaxo and delete the contacts there. Then reinstall Plaxo and sync w/ Outlook. You can contact support via e-mail (at plaxo.com) and they can help you in more detail if you run into problems here.

Thanks for the quick response. I can see the logic of what you're saying, but it gives me a headache to try and think it through!

I'll try some experiments and see what happens

Thanks
