Apple does not give developers access to the calendar or notes data on an iPhone. There is no facility for Plaxo to provide sync of this data.

Apple promotes their own service for data sync so they have an effective monopoly unless a developer attempts to write and distribute alternative Calendar and Notes applications.

Hey Drew,

thank u for your notice, just thinking about purchasing plaxo premium and iPhone sync would definitely make me doing that.

Google has a sync with iPhone as you can see here,

http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=apple

can't Plaxo do it the same way?

Thank u

Drew, this epitomizes how far Plaxo has strayed from what it was founded on. Plaxo could absolutely support calendar and contact syncing with the iPhone but has so far ignored this great opportunity to take advantage of the new platform.

Plaxo has ignored ActiveSync. I find it neglectful that Plaxo hasn't embraced it. You'd cater to more than the iPhone crowd as well. Anyone with a Windows Mobile phone could take advantage of it as well. Nuevasync has it figured out and connected Plaxo to ActiveSync. Why can't you do it natively?!

I have to agree as well. There are two approaches:

1. ActiveSync
2. SyncML

The development in the industry is split between the two, and with Google moving away from SyncML to ActiveSync, we can see the writing on the wall.

This should be embarrassing to Plaxo. I am a paid member, and frankly I have to wonder why. OTA sync is a requirement. I don't have it (iPhone) and this is not acceptable.

Even worse is that there is a SyncML client released from Plaxo for WM. Why not iPhone? Funambol has had one for quite some time. There are others as well - all supported. Of course, the best way to sync is natively (for WM and for the iPhone) and this means via ActiveSync.

As you noted above, there are services that support this interface - so no excuse for Plaxo on this - they can outsource it if they wanted.

Imagine the number of potential, paid users that would swell Plaxo's revenues if this were to be fixed? The ONLY, and I mean ONLY, features that Plaxo has a leg up in the market is the social networking feature where one's profile update populates the cards subscribed to by another. Thus, I won't be with inaccurate contact information of another if both of us are on Plaxo. Now, if, say, Google or Yahoo or Apple were to resolve this and extend the Card's attributes, Plaxo would be out of business in short order.

OTA sync via ActiveSync is a survival REQUIREMENT for Plaxo. Now owned by Comcast, well that will temper anyone's expectations.

How disappointing... I specifically signed onto the forum to find out if there were plans for Plaxo to enable syncing with iPhone only to read an excuse from an employee who has no validity to his reasoning.

I really was hoping for more from Plaxo. I saw them going in a good direction in becoming more community based without all the fb bs, games, and fluff. However, the longer I remain a customer, the less I believe that they see their full potential nor their ability to fulfill it. That's too bad.

If anyone knows of a product that is what Plaxo could be, please email me.

Regards,
Diffie

Sorry - I should clarify my statement. As I do development on the Mac and iPhone apps I do know that Apple does not provide a programming interface for calendar the way they do for OS X - and there is no programing interface to notes on the iPhone - notes can be synced using Sync Services on OS X Leopard and newer. So, one can't write an app that provides direct sync of these two data types the way that it is possible to sync contacts.

Now, if Plaxo were to support ActiveSync via our servers then it would be possible to provide this kind of functionality. The idea of providing these services have been kicked around over the years - perhaps this may be a catalyst to move that idea closer to becoming a reality.
