Default Address Book 'Me' card sync to Plaxo Profile

We would like to gather feedback regarding Plaxo for Mac's ability to sync the Apple Address Book 'Me' (your personal card) to your Plaxo Profile. We are seeing whether or not the feature should be maintained, enchanced or possibly removed in future versions of Plaxo for Mac. So, if you would please respond to this poll, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your feedback!

-Drew

Please DO NOT remove it! I will be forced to use something else if so then.

Could you help us understand why people would not want their Me card synced?

I have selected the option to have it sync and note that my (important) me card doesn't sync to my phones or to outlook. This is highly irritating.

thanks.

The Me card sync in Plaxo for Mac syncs to your Plaxo profile, so if you change your mobile phone, email, address, etc. in Apple's Address Book or Plaxo Online, the changes will sync between the two. And when you update your Plaxo profile, depending on the permissions you have set for your home and work info, the updates could then automatically be reflected in your Plaxo connections' address books - this is part of the Smart Address Book functionality of Plaxo Online.

The Plaxo for Windows/Outlook client does not sync profile information to the address book, but it probably should (or at least provide the option for it). Then you would have the behavior you are looking for.

There is a less than ideal workaround for your sync situation - you could add yourself to your address book as a normal contact (not designated as your Me card) - a normal contact will sync between Mac, Plaxo Online and Outlook, but changes to this card would not update your profile and thus would not update your permissioned connections.

But the concern is that people may not understand that the Me card is syncing to their Plaxo profile and that local changes in Apple's Address Book might send out updated information to their permissioned Plaxo contact/connections.

I want my Plaxo profile to be the same as my AddressBook ME card. Indeed I want to be able to ensure that my ME card is not updated in anyway with confirmation.

Keeping the two in sync is necessary as nearly all editing is done via AddressBook.

Another important consideration with the Me card is its importance when syncing to Google accounts. On Google my main address is also my ME card.I am guessing that the gmail address is given a unique GUID by Google and this is used when accepting invites to Google Talk and Reader. If you overwrite your gmail address with the same information, all your invited respondents and shared views in Reader drop of and you have to re-invite them all over again.

In my view the ME card should be considered sacrosanct.

So would you say that even though you have the "Me" card sync enabled and are using it today, you would also like for there to be warnings/pop-up messages before changes from the Apple Address Book go to Plaxo Online or vice-versa? Or would dialogs popping up be too intrusive to you working?

Some sort of warning if a change is being made to the Me card would be useful, just because other services on OS X rely on this settings.

The OS X Sync service has a nice feature that allow you set a level at which you want to be prompted, say if 5% of your contacts are being deleted/edited. This has warned me on a number of occasions if something isn't quite right with a sync and allowed me to cancel and check what was happening.

I'm a Premium user and I have enjoy the Plaxo service so far as it is becoming one of my main tool for work. My "Me" is extremely important business wise as it is my electronic business card. I absolutely need it to be synchronized as part of the Address Book. From my point of view, it has to remain and be slightly improved. The improvement might simply be stability as I've encountered issues with that specific matter a few times already since last winter where I kept having to roll-back to a previous state of my address book because the sync process would suddenly make my personal card disappear from the Plaxo address book and thus become out of sync with my Apple Address Book.

It surely works fine and this is a great service. I am looking to sync it also from my iphone directly but the only way i can think of accomplishing it is syncing my address book from the iphone to my mac and then to plaxo...

Thanks,
Trevon
