Plaxo causing activesync problems

I bought new PC.
installed outlook.
installed plaxo.
had plaxo fill my contacts from its online database which i have been maintaining with old pc.
activesync with my PDA (xda2).
For contacts, I select only certain categories to sync.

Problem: all contacts are being synced even if I specified only certain categories.

tried deleting partnership. deleted all contacts in pda. recreated partnership specifying to replace all contacts in PDA with the ones in desktop. Still the same problem. I still see all my contacts in the PDA no matter what category i choose to sync.

please help
